To this day, my family still think I shot with Brad Pitt to promote the Netflix movie, War Machine. Alas, while I did meet Brad during my celebrity videographer days in 2010, this was very much filmed on a grass verge in Singapore and stitched together in post. This concept and script was mine, but stemmed from a team brainstorm where I asked the Singaporean members of the team what they recall when they think about the army. One of the answers was a film called Army Daze, which was shot in 1996 but still has a cult following in Singapore. This concept reunited the cast for the first time since they wrapped - and required flying 2 of them over from the US. One didn’t even have a phone and was tracked down via letter, can you ruddy believe it. I found the best point in the film to write in the Army Daze characters and show them “talking to” Brad before battle, scripting around iconic lines from Army Daze to twang on that local nostalgia. This shoot day was an absolute pleasure, and the BTS content did almost as well as the hero piece.
